MARYSOL SCHALIT

Sopran

Swiss soprano Marysol Schalit, whose „round, clear, and multifaceted radiant soprano enraptured” (Deutschlandfunk, 30.01.17, Elisabeth Richter), began at a young age with violin, piano, and ballet lessons. She studied Voice at the Hochschule der Künste Biel/Bern, where she received her Opera and Concert diplomas with honor. Parallel to her studies she participated in numerous masterclasses, for example with Krisztina Làki and Yvonne Naef. She received further impulses from her work with Noemi Nadelmann and Heidi Brunner and is the winner of diverse voice competitions, including the Migros- Kulturprozent Studienpreises 2008 and 2010 in Switzerland, the international singing competition of Simandy Joszef in Szeged 2008 and the Anneliese- Rothenberger-Competition 2009 in Germany and the international singing competition of Schloss Oper Hallwyl 2017.

Already during her studies, she became a member of the Opera Studio at the Stadttheater Biel. Here she performed as Madame Beurrefondue in Offenbach‘s Mesdames de la Halle, as Checca in Pergolesi’s Il Flaminio, as Flora in The Turn of the Screw and as Juliette in Der Graf von Luxemburg. Furthermore, she appeared as Despina in Così fan tutte at the Biennale Bern and as Amor in Orpheus und Eurydike at Schloss Waldegg.

After only one year in the International Opera Studio of the Theater Bremen, where she successfully sang the roles of Papagena in Die Zauberflöte, Hannchen in Der Vetter aus Dingsda, Zerlina in Don Giovanni and Ilia in Idomeneo, she became a member of the ensemble of the Theater Bremen in the season 2011/12. In the past seasons she has made a name for herself with very different roles, including Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro, Adina in L’elisir d’amore, Musetta in La Bohème, Miss Jessel in The Turn of the Screw, Pamina in Die Zauberflöte, Ännchen in Freischütz, Mi in Das Land des Lächelns and in the title role of Das Tagebuch der Anne Frank. She was also the celebrated Jenny on Mahagonny, Gilda in Rigoletto, Gretel in Hänsel&Gretel and Anne Trulove in The Rakes‘ Progress, and enjoyed another major success in the title role of Simplicius Simplicissimus.

The soprano was awarded the audience prize of the Theater Bremen in January 2018, the “Silberner Roland”, for her outstanding artistic achievements.

Further engagements include Adele in Die Fledermaus with the Philharmonie Baden- Baden on tour in Switzerland and Clärchen in Egmont with Bertrand de Billy and the L`Orchestre de Chambre Lausanne. She sang at the Teatro Arriaga Bilbao as La Musica/Speranza/Ninfa in L’Orfeo und as Gretel in Hänsel und Gretel at the Opéra National de Lorraine in Nancy andPamina at the Theater of Osnabrück. The current season 2018/19 includes her debuts as Marzelline in Fidelio, in the title role of Lulu at the Theater Bremen and as a guest as Angelica in Orlando back at the Theater Osnabrück.

Marysol Schalit is an active concert singer, with a repertoire including Vivaldi, Bach, Händel, Haydn, Mozart, Schubert, Brahms, Gounod, Orff, Tischhauser and Rutter. In addition, she gives recitals regularly in Germany and Switzerland.
